Advanced Bionics is a world leader in the development of innovative cochlear implant systems.
AB was founded in 1993 and merged with Phonak within the Sonova Group in 2009. AB develops innovative CI technologies that enable the profoundly deaf and hard of hearing to regain their hearing and implant users to hear as well as possible.
The company’s goal is to use its innovations to sustainably improve the quality of life for thousands of families affected by profound to residual hearing loss.
AB’s headquarters are located in Valencia, California, USA.
Since 2009, Advanced Bionics’ European research site has been the European Research Center (ERC) in Hannover, Germany. Under the leadership of AB’s global head of research, Dr.-Ing. Volkmar Hamacher, scientists and engineers there work on research and pre-development studies in the fields of electrical stimulation strategies, electroacoustic and bimodal stimulation, efficient fitting algorithms, electrode design and evaluation methods, and implantable acoustic sensors and actuators. In its research, the ERC collaborates closely with university, clinical and technological partners from Europe, the Middle East and Asia.
